Obituary for Alys B. McCalmont (nee Baldwin)

Alys Baldwin McCalmont, 73, passed away Thursday, November 3rd with her devoted husband of 45 years, Michael, daughter Laura, son Drew and son-in-law John Tonkin at her side.

Daughter of William Irwin Baldwin and Laura Morrison Baldwin, Alys was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on November 5th, 1948. She attended the Hyde Park School with her future husband and the College Preparatory School before graduating from Withrow High School. She earned her BA in American Studies at Lindenwood College in St. Charles, MO, and began a career as a probate paralegal. She and Michael reunited in Cincinnati at the end of 1976 and were married in August, 1977. Alys was an active member of Cincinnati Junior League. She worked for several local law firms as a probate paralegal before founding her own business, McCalmont-Burtin Professional Organizers, in early 1990.

Besides her husband and their two children, Alys is survived by her sister Ann Donaldson, brothers Bill and Roger, sister-in-law Lucretia McCalmont and brother-in-law Peter McCalmont. She'll also be remembered by the light of her life, grandson Aidan Brash McCalmont (pictured), daughter-in-law Julie Horwath and countless nieces and nephews.

She meant the world to her adoring children and her life-long best friend Michael. Her kindness, infectious laugh (accompanied by an occasional snort!), sense of humor, and ability to bring joy into a room wherever she went will be the memories held close to so many who knew and loved her. Alys always put everyone else's well-being ahead of her own. Carrying on that selfless spirit is how her family and loved ones will honor her memory.

An informal celebration of Alys' life will be held at The University Club of Cincinnati on Wednesday, November 9th, from 6:00-8:00pm. Any donations in her honor may be made to Hospice of Cincinnati. TP White & Sons, Mt. Washington, are handling arrangements.
