Barbara J. Myres

April 6, 1945 — August 13, 2023

Barbara "Barb/Babs" Myres (nee Spurgin), born on April 6, 1945, in South Bend, Indiana, to Wendell "Spud" and Esther (Kopinski) Spurgin, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loving family, on August 13, 2023.

Beloved wife and best friend of James Myres, OFS, for over 56 years. They met at age fourteen, dated, then married on November 12, 1966. They remained devoted to one another and their Catholic faith, serving as an example of what true love is. Cherished mother to James (Lesa) Myres, Michael (Stephanie) Myres, David (Harmony) Myres, Mary (Michael) Creamer, Kathleen Myres, John (Meredith) Myres, Ann Myres, and Joseph Myres. Adored grandmother of Sam (Gretchen), Ben, Abe, Will, Sophie, Jim, Mike, Mason, Connor, and Norah. Treasured sister of Judy (Anthony) Giannavola and James (Anna) Spurgin, and loving sister-in-law of Kathy Spurgin. Also survived by many nieces, a nephew, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wendell and Esther, her brother, Tom Spurgin, brother-in-law, Anthony Giannavola, brother-in-law, Paul Gavin, sister-in-law, Ruth Gavin, and many aunts, uncles, and other loved ones.

Her call to care for others was evident in all she did. Barb was a part-time, night shift, Mother Baby nurse at Mercy Hospital for much of her adult life. She was an active member of her church, volunteered in her children's schools, and was an advocate for inclusive education for her son with autism. Barb endured a 13-year battle with Alzheimer's disease with grace and dignity. She was blessed with unwavering love, care, and support of her devoted husband and their eight children, as well as the compassionate care of her nurse from Hospice of Southwest Ohio.

Barb's love and kindness are dearly missed, but the example she set will endure, and her legacy of love and compassion will live on through her family and all who were blessed to know her.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at 9:00 AM at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 7820 Beechmont Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45255. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 AM
