Janet Lee Heywood, age 77, passed of ALS January 16, 2021. Born in Anderson Township, Cincinnati, Ohio, the daughter of Margaret Burnes Heywood and James Heywood. A scholar, she attended University of Chicago and Harvard. Living in the Boston area, she excelled as a scientist, writer, publisher, archivist, naturalist and birder. She became known for her historic tours at the famous Mt. Auburn Cemetery, and the "Angel Walk". "Indefatigable, Indispensable Janet." She authored numerous articles about the history of the Cemetery while Vice President of Interpretive programs. Retiring to her family home, she volunteered for the Anderson Township Historical Society, enjoying friends and activities, contributing her knowledge of archival research and publishing. Again, her expertise and brilliant mind prevailed. She wrote the Images of America "Anderson Township" book for the community's 225th celebration. Her sister Nancy, brother Jim, Deb, nephew Sam, Kendre, niece Tess, Nick, believe she now walks among Angels. She will be daily missed, her joy, kindness and wit. No public gatherings at this time. Remembrances may be to the ATHS. She strongly believed in preserving history, footprints for future generations to follow. Longfellow wrote of a "quiet spirit in these woods; heavenly forms we worship in our dreams" the "soft hues that stain the wild bird's wing "; the eloquent voice in all the sylvan pomp of woods, the golden sun, the flowers, the leaves, the river on its way. "Rest In peace our beloved, your voice never forgotten. Hebrews 13:2 "Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares".
