Obituary for Jean Madeline Sheldon (Hooker)

Jean Madeline Sheldon (nee Hooker) passed away March 10th, 2021. She was born January 22nd, 1932 in Niskayuna, NY to the late Francis and William Hooker. She was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Bruce and her two sons, Scott and Peter. She is survived by her son Patrick (Eleanora), and daughters Beth (William) Dopp and Jane Sweatt (Tim Dietsch) as well as her sister Francis Unseld and numerous nieces and nephews. She adored her grandchildren Megan (Brian) Whalen, Daniel (Michaela) Sweatt, Matthew (Kelly) Dopp, Patrick (Wandscheiska) Sheldon, Ryan (Kelly) Sheldon, and Peter Sheldon. The apples of her eye were her two great-granddaughters, Maple Whalen and Zireael Sheldon and nothing made her happier than seeing and holding them. She is also survived by her grandchildren of the heart, Nicholas and Emily Dietsch and Margaret (Rob) Jones and their three adorable boys, Noah, Grayson, and Everett. And, unbelievably, her thousand-year-old cat Casey.

Throughout her very busy life, Jean held jobs as a bank teller, carpet mill worker, greenhouse laborer extraordinaire (her tomato growing was beyond compare), floral shop employee and administrative office worker for her condo complex. She enjoyed her time spent volunteering for the local animal shelter and bringing animals into nursing homes for visits. Nothing made her happier than every spring, planting a multitude of flowers and brightening up whatever home she currently resided in. Jean was known for her baking, in particular her chocolate jumble cookies and her pecan pie. She loved a good margarita or gin and tonic, funnel cakes, playing cards, and watching the Game Show Network.

Jean will be missed by all who knew and loved her, but we are comforted by the fact that she is now at peace and with those who have passed before her. She packed a lot of life into her 89 years. We should all be so lucky. RIP Mom, Grandma, GG and Friend.

There will be no services for Jean. She will be buried in the family plot in Minaville, NY. A celebration of Jean's life will be held in the spring. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Cincinnati, C/O Bethesda Foundation, Inc., P.O. Box 633597, Cincinnati, Ohio 45263-3597 who gave Jean tender loving care in the final months of her life. We cannot thank them enough.
