Obituary for John L. Andreyko

CINCINNATI - John L. Andreyko, 80, after a valiant fight with cancer, passed away on Monday, March 19, 2018, surrounded by family. Mr. Andreyko was born in Youngstown, OH on July 31, 1937. He was the son of the late Andrew and Sophia Lutz Andreyko. He moved to Cincinnati in 1967, where he settled with his family. John L. graduated from Youngstown University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration in 1959. He worked for 33-years for the Cities of Youngstown, Akron, and Cincinnati, until retirement in 1994, after working a number of roles, including Accountant, Deputy Director of Finance, and Finance Director. He continued to work after retirement as a consultant for several municipalities in the Cincinnati area, and most recently retired from Uptown Consortium, where he helped contribute to the development of uptown Cincinnati. John L. and his family were members of Guardian Angels Church and most recently St. Rose Church. He volunteered coaching youth football teaching the importance of good sportsmanship and teamwork for nearly 25-years at both Mt. Washington and Guardian Angels organizations. He enjoyed helping with Boy Scouts of America at Guardian Angels Troop #445, as a scoutmaster, and he was a lead instructor for the M. E. Lyons Y.M.C.A. SCUBA program and enjoyed trips with his wife and friends to exotic locations. John L. was a loving husband and partner to Beth O'Driscoll Andreyko for nearly 60-years, who preceded him to heaven in February, 2018, a father to Andrew (Christina), John A. (Deborah), Michael, Michele, and the late Debra Andreyko; Grandpa to Nicole, Jason, Jessica, Avery, and Drew; and Great Grandpa to Tristan; dear brother of Jo Ann "Fay" (the late Edward) Olbrych, and Uncle John to many nieces and nephews. John L. was preceded to heaven by brothers George (Josephine), Charles, Michael, Andrew, and sisters Rose Marie and Sophia Andreyko, Ann (Bob) Proverbs, Mary (Mark) Kishton, Helen (Neal) Cavanaugh, Marge (Hank) Agoney, Kay (Lucky) LaFreniere, and Sue (Bernie) Surack. Family and friends may visit T.P. White & Sons Funeral Home, 2050 Beechmont Ave., Mt. Washington on Sunday, March 25, from 2-5 PM. Mass of Christian Burial at Guardian Angels Church, Mt. Washington on Monday, March 26, at 10 AM. Memorials to the Alzheimer's Association.
