Obituary for Lawrence W. Mecklenborg Jr.

Lawrence William Larry Mecklenborg Jr. passed away on May 16, 2021. Son of L.W. Sr., and Helen Julia (nee Hartwig) Mecklenborg, he was born in Cincinnati on August 15, 1923. His education at the University of Cincinnati was interrupted by World War II and service in the Army Air Force. Following the war and his marriage to his life partner Mary Marcella Maemar Back in 1945, he returned to Cincinnati and graduated with a degree in Metallurgical Engineering. In the 1960's, he began a business partnership with his high school friend Gus Schmidt, representing manufacturers of welding equipment. Together they built a successful company that is still operating today. He retired in 1988 and he and Maemar became world travelers, going to Tahiti, Australia, Rio de Janeiro, the Galapagos, Machu Pichu, and many other places. They slowed down only when Maemars memory began to fail, and he cared for her for many years until her death in 2012.
