Ms. Doerger was my teacher from 3rd grade thru 5th grade at St Veronica. She was a phenomenal teacher who had the heart and dedication to her students to see them suceed. Her story of overcoming polio inspired me to write my 7th grade speech on the life of Albert Sabin that I dedicated it to her. Sending my thoughts and condolences. Fly free Ms. Doerger, you had such a great influence on your former students.

Sincerely,
John Samples

I first met Pat when I was a sophomore in college and went out to St. Michael's Mission. Pat had founded a summer school for the Navajo children. Pat was the energizer bunny. I think we had around 30 teachers that summer coming from all over the states. Pat was very organized. We did lesson plans in the evening and were treated to "Pecan Sandies" I will never forget those cookies. Someone must have donated a pallet of them. Then after a busy week Pat would gather us all up - pack a huge picnic lunch and off we would go to Canyon de Chelly, Painted Desert, etc One of Pat's favorite songs was "Don't Fence Me In" We would sing it in the car doing errands. Oh, give me land, lots of land, and the starry skies above, Don't fence me in, Let me ride through the wide open country that I love Don't fence me in. My dearest Pat, your wish has been granted. You are free. BTW our family lived with Pat in the Southwest in a Foster Home for Children for the Diocese of Gallup. Pat was my son"s first grade teacher in Gallup, NM. She was an excellent teacher. She brought innovative ideas to the classroom. Also my son had to be in a wheelchair for several weeks and under Pat's guidance she made him feel very comfortable. The children thought it was a privilege to bring his lunch up to him and sit with him. Thank you for allowing me to express my admiration to a woman who I will never forget. Sylvia Norris
