Obituary for Virginia Ann Wheeler (nee Johnson)

Virginia Ann (nee Johnson) Wheeler, formerly of Wheelersburg, OH, passed away on Tuesday, January 25, 2022, at the age of 80 in Cincinnati, OH. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 56 years, Richard “Scott” Wheeler. She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Mary Elizabeth Wheeler of Cincinnati, OH, Kathryn Ann Janini (Thomas) of Medina, OH, Laura Kay Organisciak (Gregory) of Cincinnati, OH; and five grandchildren, Scott Peter Schap (Wheeler), Jacob Gregory Organisciak, William Arthur Organisciak, Laura Kathryn Schap (Wheeler) and Anna Kathryn Organisciak.

Virginia is survived by one sister Mary Kathryn “Kay” Konicek (Kenneth) of Daniel Island, SC, sister-in-law Carolyn Wheeler (the late Roger Wheeler) of Grove City, OH, and several nieces and nephews. A 1959 graduate of Racine High School, “Ginny” grew up in Racine, OH, and is preceded in death by her parents, Thereon Arthur Johnson and Mary Lew (Philson) Johnson, and brother Donald Frederick Johnson.

Ginny attended The Ohio State University, where she studied business administration and participated in University Chorus, Block O, and Kappa Delta Sorority. After graduating in 1963, Ginny and Scott married and moved to New Boston, OH. Ginny began her career working for the Girl Scouts of America. In 1968, she and Scott moved to Wheelersburg, OH, to raise their family. A member of Wheelersburg United Methodist Church, Ginny was active in United Methodist Women and enjoyed singing in the choir.

In 2006, Ginny and Scott relocated to Cincinnati, OH, to be closer to their grandchildren. They joined Anderson Hills United Methodist Church, where Ginny participated in the bell choir, chancel choir, and United Methodist Women.

Ginny was an avid gardener and seamstress. While raising her girls, she used her creative talents teaching macramé and selling her artwork at local craft shows. Later, she taught at Portsmouth Interstate Business College, Shawnee State University, and Scioto County Joint Vocation School.

In addition to knitting and other needlecrafts, Ginny enjoyed cooking and baking, music and theatre, reading, puzzles, and games. She was a Master Gardener and garden club member, helping many years to decorate the lodge at Shawnee State Park for the holidays. Ginny enjoyed sharing her talents, giving away many of her handicrafts to family and friends, and knitting hundreds of hats for newborns. In addition, Ginny was quick to assist anyone with a craft project to complete, in need of an ear to listen, or a recipe to share. She will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.
