Obituary for William E. Stein

William E. Stein, age 93 of Greenwood Co., South Carolina and formerly of Anderson Twp., died May 2, 2021. He was the beloved husband of 59 years to the late Joyce Edna Stein (nee Jacob), devoted father of William J. (Sherry) Stein, loving grandfather of Lori (Justin) Scory, William C. Stein, and Anthony Moreland, and dear brother of Leah Becker, Jerome Stein, and the late Audrey Edwards. Funeral service will be held in the Park View Mausoleum at Rest Haven Memorial Park, 10209 Plainfield Rd., on Saturday, May 8th at 11 am. If desired, memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association.

Bill was a long time Cincinnati resident. He attended Plainfield High School excelling in organized sports including football, basketball and track. He joined the US Army following high school and served in occupied Germany following World War II as a tech sergeant managing an administrative operations staff supporting a US Army Corps sector senior executive officer. Upon his return to the US at the completion of his military service, Bill began a rewarding 40 year career in the transportation and physical distribution industry. He held numerous increasingly challenging sales and management positions over time ultimately joining the Cincinnati based Senco Products industrial tool company. He was employed by Senco for over twenty years as their Manager of Physical Distribution with worldwide responsibility for their product and services traffic management and physical distribution at the time of his retirement.

Bill was a loving husband and dedicated father. He delighted in pleasure boating and he always looked forward to the time that he and Joyce, his wife of 59 years, would spend together on their houseboat on the Ohio River and its surrounding waterways. Bill and Joyce's common interests in playing bridge with friends, participating in couples' bowling leagues and enjoying travel to new places were a compliment to the joy they experienced as they raised a family together. Bill had a special interest in watching and playing golf from the time that he was first introduced to the sport as a young boy when he worked as a caddy at local country clubs. He also reveled in fishing for largemouth bass and often found it difficult to contain his excitement when he would hook a big one. In keeping with his nature, he was always a catch and release fisherman.

It brought Bill much happiness when he had the opportunity to share his enthusiasm and experience in sports related activities with young people .... particularly his son. He coached and managed numerous little league baseball teams during his fatherhood. He spent innumerable hours teaching his son the intricacies of sport fishing, playing golf, fielding and hitting baseballs and maintaining a positive and sportsman like attitude when competing ... win or lose. Most importantly, he consistently served as an enviable model for how to succeed in life both personally and professionally looking always to give thanks every night in his prayers for God's blessings upon him.

Following the loss of his wife to Alzheimer's disease in 2009, Bill lived independently at the New England Club senior living community in Anderson Township for 7 years. As he himself began to experience symptoms of the same disease that took his wife, as well as other health challenges, he moved to Greenwood, South Carolina to live at the Wesley Commons senior living community allowing him to be near his son and daughter in law in order that they could ensure the best possible medical care and regular family member visits for him. Bill succumbed to the challenges confronting his health on May 2, 2021, at the age of 93.

Bill has been loved and respected by his family, coworkers, friends and caregivers throughout and up to the very end of his life. He will be long remembered and appreciated by all who were so fortunate as to have known him.
