Obituary for William S. Hart

William Sefton Hart

Feb 28, 1934 – April 18, 2022

William "Bill" Hart passed away on Monday, April 18, 2022, at the age of 88.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dorothea Hart (nee Hepke). He is survived also by his children Pam Heaton, Derek (Donna) Hart and Steve (Becci) Hart, and by his grandchildren Erin, Ashley, Kate, John, Elizabeth, Paul, Dawsyn, and Dylan.

Bill was born to Bertha (nee Tress) and Edward Hart in Batesville, Indiana. He grew up in Dayton, Kentucky.

He attended Eastern Kentucky University. While there, he enlisted in the army and was eventually stationed in Berchtesgaden, Germany. This is where he met and married Dorothea, so, of course, his time in Bavaria was remembered joyfully and often.

He returned with Dorothea to Eastern Kentucky University to finish his bachelor’s degree in Education. His friends from that period remained wonderfully steadfast and well connected. He treasured the friendships forged there with the Dosches, Romards, Schneiders, and many others.

Bill became a professor and spent most of his career at University College at the University of Cincinnati. He earned a PhD in Education and was tenured there. He touched so many young lives in that role and seemed unable to go anywhere in town without running into a former student who remembered him fondly.

He was lucky enough to retire early and in 1990 built his lakeside retirement castle at Hidden Valley Lake, where he and Dorothea have been enjoying the lake and becoming friends with their many delightful neighbors.

Bill was a charmer, and a big personality in every room he ever occupied. He made friends easily and kept them well. He will be missed.

Bill kept his faith at the Lutheran church and was a long-time member at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church on Werk Rd. and at Hope Lutheran Church on Blue Rock Rd. His memorial service will be conducted at Hope Lutheran, on Wednesday May 4, at 5:30 pm, with a reception following. In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to Hospice of Cincinnati.
