Anne Emens Miller, 66, Cincinnati, passed on April 6, holding hands with her family at her side.

She was a deeply caring mother, friend, and colleague. She was admired for her thoughtfulness, wit, loyalty, empathy and fun-loving spirit.

Born on July 5, 1959 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Anne grew up in Upper Arlington, Ohio, before graduating from Michigan State University.

She was dedicated to her family and nurtured their bonds-making family meals special occasions and organizing extravagant and memorable birthday and holiday celebrations.

She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Richard Miller; her children Leigh Francis Miller and Carson Emens Miller (Alex Markle); her grandson Otto Francis Miller; her mother, Mary Francis Moyer; her brother Jack David Emens (Janie); sisters, Alaine Francis Emens (Jackie Fields) and Elizabeth Francis Emens (Ilan Stein); her stepbrother Drew Moyer (Lori); stepmother Beatrice Wolper, and many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews. Her father, J. Richard (Dick) Emens and stepfather, Thomas J. Moyer, preceded her in death.

Her first job was with the Chicago White Sox, which sparked a life-long love of baseball. She built a successful marketing career in Chicago and San Francisco, before returning to Ohio and settling in Cincinnati, where she and Rick ultimately founded a strategic communications consultancy for which she served as Chief Financial Officer.

Anne was a devoted volunteer and chapter leader with Cincinnati Children's Kindervelt and Mercer Elementary School PTA. At Mercer, she shared her love for books by founding Let's Go Read, a volunteer program to further the skills of early readers. She also co-founded the Turpin High School Orchestra's first volunteer support group.

She loved to travel, particularly to her family cabin on Little Traverse Lake in Leelanau County, Michigan, and around the world. This passion was instilled by her parents to foster new life experiences and perspectives, which she passed to her own children. Anne had a legendary love of films, for many years hosting an Academy Awards watch party for neighborhood friends.

Most of all, Anne had a remarkable effect on others. She understood the power of listening and demonstrating empathy for other people's needs before her own. In that way alone, she touched many people's lives and made others feel seen and valued.

A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, April 17 at Bellarmine Chapel at Xavier University, 3801 St. Francis Xavier Way, Cincinnati, OH 45207. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m., with Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Her interment will be held at a later date in Ottoville, Ohio.

The family asks no flowers be sent; rather suggests remembering Anne by donating to one of the causes for which she was most passionate:

· The Anne Emens Miller Family Scholarship (#32240), supporting future leaders through the Emens Scholars program at Ball State University's  Honors College.

· Leelanau Conservancy, which preserves and protects the land, water and scenic character of Leelanau County, Michigan.

· Hospice of Cincinnati, which provided awe-inspiring and loving care to Anne.

We are sad beyond belief that Anne is no longer with us. For ten months, she courageously fought a debilitating cancer with a determination and conviction that inspired everyone around her. She simply refused to let the disease define her.

She is deeply missed and will be forever remembered.
