Conrad Oppt

March 5, 1944 — April 1, 2024

Conrad (Connie) Charles Oppt passed away on Monday, April 1, 2024, after a very short but hard-fought battle with a brain tumor. He was born on March 5, 1944, and had just turned 80 years old while in the hospital recuperating from the tumor removal surgery.

Connie is survived by his loving and caring wife of almost 55 years, Barbara (Gray) Oppt, his son, Christopher (Lori) Oppt, his daughter, Jennifer (Chris) Underhill, and four grandchildren: Ryan, Sophia, Callie, and Phoebe. He is also survived by his sister, Judy (Dr. Bob) Smyth; brother-in-law, Ken Gray; sisters-in law, Connie (Dick) Leinberger and Judy (Tom) Brown, as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents Conrad and Ethel (Glandorf) Oppt.

Connie grew up in Mt. Washington, graduated from Withrow High School, and earned his BA degree in Architecture from the Design, Art and Architecture (DAA) School at the University of Cincinnati. He built his own business not only as an architect but also, following in his father's and grandfather's footsteps, as ahomebuilder/remodeler with his son, Chris, partnering with him over the past 30 years. Connie took great pride in sharing that he was part of four generations of builders. He was still working at the time of his tumor diagnosis just weeks before his passing.

Of all of the things that Connie built in his long career, none was more important than his family. He adored his wife, kids and grandkids, all of whom gave him enormous joy and about whom he rightfully bragged and celebrated their many achievements. Many a holiday was celebrated at Connie and Barb's as theywarmly opened their home to both immediate and extended family and friends. You never knew who would be there, but it was always fun.

Connie was a good and loyal friend and kept in touch with buddies for decades. He had a large group of friends, dating back to high school and college years, with whom he and Barb still hung out with on a regular basis. Connie also loved cars and had collected several on and off over the years. He would tell you that nothing was better than to hop in the car with Barb on a beautiful day and meet up with some of their friends for a long, leisurely drive to a fun place or just to grab lunch. Even longer drives took them to Florida and to historic places of interest along the way.

We will miss Connie's smile, sense of humor, creativity, talents, his love of family and his zest for family history. Many a grandkid, niece and nephew will also miss his "Donald Duck" imitations. He's in a better place now where he's likely going over a few jobs with his dad and/or watching a Cincinnati Reds game with his mom.

Our family will be forever grateful to the team who provided outstanding care to Connie at Jewish Hospital in Kenwood after his cancer diagnosis and surgery, and where his wife, Barb, had served during her entire 50-year career as a nurse. We also want to thank Connie's caregivers at Christ Hospital, especially the Hospice team who showed him great care and dignity.

Visitation will be 9 am-11 am, Wednesday, April 10, at T.P. White & Sons Funeral Home, 2050 Beechmont Avenue, Mt. Washington. Services to follow at 11 am at the funeral home. Interment will be at Pierce Township Cemetery, 950 Locust Corner Road, following services.
