Donald D. Stone

Donald D. Stone, 85, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, friendship, service, and unwavering devotion to family.

Don was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Pamela "Pam" Miller Stone; his parents, Dana "Pete" and Lucille Stone; and his brother, Max Stone.

He is survived by his daughter, Shannon Stone Wells and her husband, Roy Wells, Jr.; his cherished grandchildren, Alex Wells (Ashley), Brecken Wells, and Kellen Wells; and his sister, Marla Gilpin (Fred), along with many extended family members and dear friends.

A proud United States Army veteran, Don served his country from 1958 to 1962 and remained a lifelong supporter of veterans and veterans' causes. He believed in honoring those who served and quietly demonstrated that commitment throughout his life.

Don was perhaps Ohio State University's most enthusiastic fan. College football season was one of his favorite times of the year, and it was rare to see him without an Ohio State hat, jacket, or T-shirt. Whether celebrating a Buckeye victory or discussing the latest game, his passion for Ohio State was unmistakable and contagious.

Known for his warm and outgoing nature, Don never met a stranger. He loved gathering with friends for card games, enjoyed old movies and the music of the 1950s, and treasured the simple pleasure of spending time with others. He was a loyal and caring neighbor whose friendship enriched the lives of those around him. The family extends heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the Campbells, the Marshes, and the Hartigs, for their kindness, friendship, and countless acts of thoughtfulness over the years.

To many, Don will always be remembered for his legendary homemade fudge. Family, friends, and neighbors often declared it the best they had ever tasted. Over the years, countless people encouraged him to turn his talent into a business, but Don was happiest sharing it as a gift. When he retired from fudge-making last Christmas, he generously shared his recipes, ensuring that his sweet tradition would continue for generations to come.

Above all else, Don loved his family. Nothing brought him more pride or joy than being present for his grandchildren. Whether standing on the sidelines or cheering from the stands, he rarely missed an opportunity to support them. His family was the center of his world, and they will forever cherish the love, encouragement, and steady presence he provided.

Don will be remembered for his friendly smile, generous spirit, deep loyalty, and the countless lives he touched through simple acts of kindness. Though he will be greatly missed, his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Memorial service will be held at T.P. White & Sons Funeral Home, 2050 Beechmont Ave., Mt. Washington, on Saturday, August 8th at 11 a.m. where family and friends may visit from 10 a.m. until time of service.  If desired, memorials may be directed to a veteran's organization of the donor's choice.
