Dorothy M. Hinssen

Dorothy M. Hinssen (nee Smith) passed away on Oct. 3, 2023, at age 96. She was the beloved wife of the late James J. Hinssen, devoted mother of James "Jim" J. Hinssen and Jennifer M. (Mark) Schnizer, dear grandmother of Joseph T. and Ryan W. Schnizer, caring sister of Katherine (Carl) Schaefer, the late Betty (Vincent) Andres, Janet (Bill) Crum, and Annie (Russ) Cole, daughter of the late Edward and Goldie Smith (nee Otto), also survived by many nieces and nephews. Dorothy had a beautiful life filled with lasting friendships through her time at Harrison High School and Cincinnati Gas and Electric employment and many sports including softball and bowling. She enjoyed traveling. She married James at St. Therese Little Flower Catholic Church in 1963 and became a devoted wife and mother and very involved with the church. When she got promoted to Grammy to Joseph T. and Ryan W. her world was complete. She treasured her time with her family. She moved to a retirement community at age 90 and insisted it was not a nursing home but was independent living. Dorothy instantly made friends and connected with people and cared for people younger than her! In her final words she told us” I had a good life".
