Edward A. Harvey Sr.

July 1, 1932 — May 14, 2025

In Loving Memory of Edward A. Harvey Sr.

Edward A. Harvey Sr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully, reunited with the love of his life, Maria Teresa (Luongo) Harvey. He was 92 years old. Loving father of Annie Rowswell, Carol Harvey, Edward A. Harvey Jr., Laura (Paul) Kitzmiller, Teresa Harvey (Curt Wagner), James Harvey, proud grandfather of James, Bridget, Jonathan, Christopher, Jessica, Hannah, Haley, Josh, Saturn, Erica, Kevin, Keith and Evelyn and great-grandfather of Georgie, Carina, Joey, Corlynn, Luke, Milo, Flora, Declan, Sophie and Leo, and dear brother of the late Patricia Welsh.

Born on July 1, 1932, at the height of the Great Depression in Portland, Oregon, Ed was the cherished son of Edna A. (Driscoll) Harvey and Ardell E. Harvey. At the age of two, the family moved to Grand Forks, North Dakota, where Ed spent his formative years alongside his older sister, Patricia. It truly took a village to raise Ed Harvey, and he was shaped by the loving guidance of his extended community of priests, nuns, neighbors, and friends.

Raised in a devout Catholic household, Ed was a dedicated altar boy who served Mass most mornings. His faith remained a constant throughout his life. He was blessed with the opportunity to attend St. John's Preparatory School in Collegeville, Minnesota, as a boarding student-an experience that broadened his horizons and laid the foundation for his future.

After a less-than-stellar start to college at the University of North Dakota, Ed sought direction and enlisted in the Navy Cadet Program in 1954. Earning his wings in 1955, he was stationed in San Diego and later served as a flight instructor in Pensacola, Florida. The Navy introduced Ed to the world, taking him across the Pacific to Okinawa, Japan, Hong Kong, China, and the Philippines. His time in the service instilled in him a sense of confidence, discipline, and adventure.

While stationed in Pensacola, fate intervened and Ed met the woman who would become his wife and lifelong partner, Maria Teresa Luongo. He often said marrying Maria was "the best decision I ever made." They were wed on June 6, 1958, and went on to share 53 beautiful years together.

Following his military service, Ed returned to his academic pursuits with renewed vigor, completing his degree at the University of North Dakota before earning his JD from the University of Minnesota Law School. He passed the bar in both Minnesota and Pennsylvania, practicing law in labor relations with a specialization in the transit and printing industries.

Ed and Maria's greatest pride and joy came from raising their six children-Annie, Carol, Ed, Jr., Laura, Teresa, and James. Together, they faced life's triumphs and trials with unwavering devotion. Ed's legacy lives on through his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and the countless lives he touched with his humor, wisdom, and generosity.

Ed was a true Irishman, through and through. With twinkling green eyes and a ready smile, he loved nothing more than spending time in deep conversation with friends and family, a cigar in one hand and a glass of bourbon or wine in the other. Ever the storyteller, he brought joy, humor, and wisdom to every gathering. And he'd often raise his glass and say with a grin, "To the girls who can," a tribute to his beloved grandmother and a testament to his warmth, charm, and deep appreciation for life.

He is now reunited in eternal peace with his beloved Maria, and the many family members and friends who went before him. He leaves behind a lifetime of love, service, and memories that will be cherished forever.
