Edward L. Hoffer, age 94, of Cincinnati, OH, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2026. Edward lived a life of dedication, hard work, and love for family and friends.

Edward was was born on November 25, 1931, in Covington, KY to Edward and Marie Hoffer. He was the youngest of three siblings, including eldest sister Betty and brother Bill. He attended Covington Latin School and graduated from St. Xavier High School. Edward received an undergraduate degree in economics and a graduate degree in education at Xavier University.

Edward proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954 and rose to the rank of corporal. After his discharge, he began his career as a dedicated teacher and coach at McNicholas High School. This is where he met his beloved wife Dolores. They married on July 20, 1957.

Edward continued his career as a teacher and coach at Anderson High School, where he later became vice principal and then principal. He served as the Director of Personnel at Forest Hills School District. He left Forest Hills to serve as the Superintendent of Schools in Huber Heights from 1977 to 1984 and then returned to serve as Superintendent of Forest Hills School District from 1984 to 1992. After retiring in 1992, he returned to serve as an interim principal at McNicholas High School, forgoing a salary, he instructed the money should be put toward student scholarships.

He served on the Forest hills board of Education and the McNicholas High School Board of Education. He was a member of the School Superintendents Association and was seven times named in the Who's Who section of their AASA magazine. Edward was a member of the Anderson Chamber of Commerce through which he was awarded Citizen of the Year. Other accomplishments include induction into the Northern Kentucky Hall of Fame, the Ohio Coaches Hall of Fame, and the McNicholas Athletic Hall of Fame. He will always be remembered for the meaningful and lasting impact he had on his students, athletes, and the community.

Edward's faith was very important to him. He was an active parishioner at Guardian Angels Catholic Church where he was involved with the Cursillo as well as the Parish's Twinning project supporting those impacted by Hurricane Katrina.

Ed was a devoted husband to the late Dolores Hoffer (nee. Cappel), cherished father to Jean and Paul (Matt) and loving grandfather to Madeleine, Noah, Casey, and Ava. He is also survived by his brother Bill, many nieces and nephews, and extended family. He was preceded in death by parents Edward and Marie Hoffer, and sister Betty.

Visitation will be held at Guardian Angels Catholic Church, 6539 Beechmont Avenue, on July 27, 2026, beginning at 9 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Following the services, please join us for a reception to honor and celebrate Ed's life at McNicholas High School, 6536 Beechmont Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
