Gene graduated from Purcell High School in 1957. Following his service in the US Army, he married his sweetheart and they began their family. Gene was well fortified in the sacraments, living the life of a devout Catholic. While a soft-spoken man of few words, the manner in which he lived his life of faith in Jesus Christ was an inspiration to his children and the many lives he touched. He was a devoted family man who enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews, instilling in them his deep faith and outstanding work ethic. Additionally, Gene was an avid lifelong fan of the Cincinnati Reds, and enjoyed many decades of spring training and regular season games.
