In Loving Memory of Evelyn V. Buller
Evelyn Vondine Buller, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, pastor's wife, and friend, went home to Jesus on October 5, 2026, at the age of 90. Born in Laurel, Mississippi, Evelyn lived a life marked by sacrifice, generosity, and an unwavering love of God.
Evelyn was the devoted mother of Kimberly (John) Wilson, the cherished grandmother of Bethany (Stephen) Malloy and Nate (Lindsey) Wilson, and the loving great-grandmother of Eva Lynn Malloy, Isaiah Malloy, and Presley Wilson. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews with whom she willingly shared love, wisdom, and faith. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, LeRoy Buller; her parents, Chester G. and Minnie Grace Johnson; and her six siblings.
From a young age, Evelyn felt the call of God on her life and spent the rest of her days seeking to please Jesus above all else. At the age of 18, she left home to attend Apostolic Bible Institute in Saint Paul, Minnesota. It was there that she became acquainted with her lifelong companion, LeRoy Buller, and married him on July 23, 1956. Her steadfast faithfulness to the Lord and to her husband was a remarkable example for others to follow. Together, they answered God's call to serve wherever He led, traveling and ministering through word and song across the United States and around the world.
Evelyn had a sparkling personality and an artistic flair. She was a talented painter, an avid reader, an accomplished musician, and a published author. Known for her quick wit and gentle streak of sarcasm, she was often described by friends as a spunky woman of God and a feisty angel. Throughout her life, she had the privilege of sharing her heart with others through speaking engagements at church meetings and conferences. But most importantly, she was a godly matriarch, leading her family and church to a deeper relationship with God.
While she was most well-known for her role as the beloved First Lady of First Apostolic Church (now Tree of Life Church), in Cincinnati, Ohio for 34 years, her impact extends far beyond the walls of the church building. Throughout her life, Evelyn had a remarkable gift to turn strangers into friends, embracing and welcoming everyone with whom she came into contact. Within the United Pentecostal Church International, she was well-known for her hospitality and genuine lovingkindness toward others. She was an unashamed lover of Truth, sharing the love of Jesus with others until the very end. Evelyn was a passionate advocate for unity in the body of Christ, knowing that in unity we receive the blessing of God, even life for evermore. Through her godly witness and consecrated life, Evelyn encouraged those around her to follow her, as she followed Christ.
Evelyn's life was a beautiful fulfillment of Paul's desire in Ephesians 4:1-3 that "ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, with all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace."
Even in her weakness, Evelyn remained a constant source of encouragement and comfort for those around her, because the joy of the Lord was her strength. Those who were fortunate enough to have interacted with Evelyn left her presence feeling uplifted, valued, and closer to God.
The family extends special thanks to Pastor Joel Urshan and Tree of Life Church who carry on the life mission of Evelyn Buller. We also express our heartfelt gratitude to the staff and caregivers at Montage Assisted Living Center and Queen City Hospice Care for the compassionate care, comforting words, and thoughtful gestures that have been a source of strength and peace for our family.
