Harrison P. Hood III (Hal) of Webster, NY, formerly of Corning, NY, passed away on September 22, 2024, at age 96 in Cincinnati, OH. He was preceded in death by his high school sweetheart, Becky, after 67 years of marriage. Survived by 2 beloved children: Lindsay (Ben) Keeling of Cincinnati, OH, and Alison (Jon) Lampert of Mechanicsburg, PA, 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Hal entered the University of Chicago in an accelerated program in 1944, completing his last 2 years of high school and a college degree in 4 years. He focused on physics at Chicago and graduated in 1948 with a PhB. He continued his study in physics at the University of Rochester, completing BS in Physics in 1954.
Hal's education and marriage to Becky were followed by a long career as a Research Physicist with the Eastman Kodak Company. His dedicated leadership of the Electrostatics Department included solving high-priority static problems that had long plagued the film industry. He was also a founding pioneer of the Electrostatics Society of America and served on the board of directors for several years.
Upon retiring, Hal put together a complete workshop and embarked on a 20-year adventure as a self-taught furniture builder for his family. He crafted everything from jewelry boxes to complete bedroom sets with precision and beauty. As one of the cofounders of the local chapter of SHHH, now Hearing Loss Association of America, Hal served as treasurer and on the Board of Directors for 20 years. A faithful and long-time volunteer at Third Presbyterian Church, his service included building numerous cabinets and furniture pieces used throughout the church. His interests included the NY Times crossword puzzles, classical music, bridge, family genealogy and singing in Third Church choirs.
Predeceased by son Harrison P. Hood IV, parents Marie and Harrison P. Hood II, and two sisters, Phyllis Hood Raulerson and Joyce Hood Kahl. Hal bequeathed his body for study to the University of Cincinnati Anatomical Gift Program. His cremains will be united with Becky's and interred in the Third Presbyterian Church Columbarium.
