David Nicholson passed away on Monday May 11th at Central Parke Memory Care with his wife and Hospice RN at his bedside. He was 74 years old. David is survived by his wife Mary (nee Robinson), son Christopher (Lauren S) and daughter Lauren E. (Richard Ricardez); grandchildren Sylvia and Evelyn Nicholson and Jack David Ricardez. He is also survived by his brother Peter Nicholson, Brother in-law John Robinson ( Carolyn), sister in laws- Melanie Salata, Diane Drummer and Judy Robinson (James Cretcher), numerous nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews; and his dog Jackie. He was loved and blessed to have a very supportive and loving family. He and Mary were married for 45 years.
David was born in San Rafael, California and moved across the country due to his father's vocation. He became interested in music and learned to play and perform with his cello. He played with the Cincinnati Youth Symphony in High School and received a scholarship in Music to Eastern Kentucky University and graduated with a BA in Music theory and composition.
Due to competitive nature of musicians, he went to work at Christ Hospital and eventually went to Northern Kentucky University (NKU) and earned an ADN degree in nursing. David's nursing career spanned over 35 years at both Christ Hospital and home care nursing as an IV therapy RN. He was known as IV Dave across the hospital and developed a skill set which allowed him to start many IV lines into thousands of patients over the years.
David was also an avid golfer and played many courses in Cincinnati and Clermont county on weekends. He even scored a "hole in one" at Lunken's golf course and received a plaque which he displayed. His golf buddies were neighbors and they played together for years.
David served as a Deacon at Mt Washington Presbyterian church and also sang in the choir for many years until it became difficult to perform due to his Alzheimer's disease.
David's celebration of his life will be held at Mount Washington Presbyterian Church on Friday May 15th. Visitation will be held from 3-4 PM followed by Memorial Service at 4 PM. Burial will be private with the family.
