With hearts full of gratitude and sorrow, we announce the passing of beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and sister, Jane Agnes Duncan, who passed from this world into God's embrace on April 22, 2026. A woman of extraordinary strength, conviction, and faith, Jane lived a life devoted to both God and her family. She leaves behind a legacy of love and service that will not be forgotten.
Jane was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on August 12, 1942, to John and Ruth Fredrick. Jane had a very eventful childhood, competing in beauty pageants, performing in talent shows, and even singing on TV on "The Big Jim Stacey Show" several times. She was a wonderful singer and loved music. During her quest to learn the guitar, Jane met a young guitar instructor named Lee, and the rest was history.
Jane and Lee quickly began taking care of each other. While Lee taught Jane to play the guitar, Jane tutored Lee in his classes. They bonded during these lessons and fell quickly in love. During their dating years, Jane shared with Lee her commitment to the Catholic Church, resulting in his conversion to Catholicism during his senior year of high school. She and Lee also shared a love of helping people, taking neighborhood children to movies, swimming outings, and camping trips. Jane and Lee enjoyed playing music together and soon began performing on stage as a pair.
Jane and Lee married in November of 1960 in the same church where Lee had been baptized just the year before. Together, they raised six children. The years were filled with love, laughter, and service. Jane sang in her Church choir for many years and loved giving back to the Church.
During the 1970s, Lee and the four oldest children performed as the Duncan Family Band at Church festivals all over Cincinnati. A talented seamstress, Jane sewed matching outfits for the Band out of the infamous stars-and-stripes fabric that was popular during those years. In the 1980s, Jane moved on to sewing elaborate dance costumes for Debbie and Nicole, and then eventually also for some of her granddaughters who were performing in dance recitals. As the children chose their own paths through the years, Jane was always their biggest cheerleader, present for every band performance, play, musical, dance recital, and talent show.
As their six children grew up and moved out - making Jane and Lee empty nesters after decades of raising kids - they truly enjoyed their golden years together. Lee owned motorcycles and they enjoyed riding together. They bought a motor home and loved to go on camping trips with the Buckeye Vagabonds. Their shared love of board games became legendary. Lee and his sons performed in a band and Jane would travel with them. Jane could always be found dancing whenever and wherever the band played. Jane enjoyed her
life with Lee up until the very end; even when she was tired and in pain, Lee could always make her smile.
Though the world feels a little dimmer without her in it, we carry her with us - in our fierce independence, in our loyalty to our children, in our love of performing, in our work ethic, and in the way we show up for the people we love. She is survived by a legacy of strength, devotion, and service, and leaves behind not just her children, grandchildren, and extended family, but also a blueprint for living with courage, humor, and grace. She showed us how to find our own voices, how to face challenges with resilience, and how to stand tall in the face of adversity. Her spirit lives on in those she guided, nurtured, and cheered on. To know her was to be seen, to be remembered, and to be loved. She was most assuredly a force to be reckoned with.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents, by siblings Ron, Jimmy, Dale, and Rosemary, and by her beloved namesake, Aunt Ag. She is survived by her devoted husband Lee, her loving sister Patti, and her children Mike (Pam) Duncan, Michelle (Dan) Ninke, Teresa (Kevin) Berter, Terry (Tina) Duncan, Debbie (Brandon) Flaig, and Nicole (Joe) Horton, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and countless friends whose lives she touched. The family invites you to attend Jane's celebration of life on Saturday, May 2nd, with a 9 am visitation followed by Catholic Mass at 10 am at St. Veronica Church, 4473 Mt. Carmel Tobasco Road, Cherry Grove. There will be a reception immediately following at the church's fellowship hall. Light refreshments will be provided.
