Jerome "Jerry" E. Hartman passed away peacefully on May 25, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Jerry was the beloved husband of Chris Hartman and the proud and devoted father of Steve (Shelly), Jeff (Amy), Dave (Melissa), and Andy (Jessica). He was a loving grandfather to 16 grandchildren and a cherished great-grandfather to 5 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense joy and pride. Jerry was preceded in death by his dear siblings, Rome, Jean, Patty, and Rosie, who now welcome him home in eternal peace.
A proud Army veteran stationed in Paris, France, Jerry served his country with honor and carried that same sense of dedication, humility, and service throughout his life.
Jerry graduated from Purcell High School in 1956, where he was a standout halfback and proud member of one of the premier high school football programs of the era. Even years later, Jerry would proudly insist that those Purcell teams were, and always would be, the greatest GCL teams of all time. He went on to continue his education at the University of Cincinnati, where he earned both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Education.
A lifelong sports fan, Jerry faithfully cheered on the Cincinnati Reds, the University of Cincinnati Bearcats, and Notre Dame, sharing his enthusiasm and loyalty with family and friends throughout the years.
Jerry dedicated more than 30 years to educating and mentoring students in the Cincinnati Public Schools. He made a lasting impact on countless young lives through his patience, kindness, and steady guidance. In addition to his teaching career, he worked at River Downs, Turfway Park, and Coney Island, where he formed many deep and lasting friendships over the years.
Known for his strong work ethic, warm sense of humor, and deep love for family, Jerry found his greatest happiness in spending time with those he loved most. He will be remembered for his generous spirit, unwavering support of his family, and the example he set through a life of hard work, faith, and compassion.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and cherished memories that will continue to live on through his family and all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made in Jerry's honor to Mercy Montessori School, 2335 Grandview Ave, Cincinnati, Ohio 45206, or St. Rose Church, 2501 Riverside Dr, Cincinnati, OH 45202.
