John D. Lenihan, 93, long time resident of Anderson Township died April 22, 2026 in Cincinnati, OH. John was married for 47 years to his loving wife, Joanne L. Lenihan (nee Ryan) until her passing on June 28, 2012. Together they were the devoted parents of Colleen (Robert) Kling, Kelly, and Sean Lenihan and were the dear grandparents of Patrick and Laura Kling. He is predeceased by his two brothers, Joseph Lenihan of Pueblo, Colorado and Bill Lenihan of Palmdale, California.
John, the son of Irish immigrants Bridget and James Lenihan, was born in Brooklyn, New York and attended Erasmus High School where he was a star football player. That led to a football scholarship at the University of Wyoming where he received a bachelor's degree in history. John played in the 1955 Kiwanis Salad Bowl All-Star football game upon graduation. After a year of teaching high school and upon a letter of recommendation from Wyoming Senator, Alan Simpson, John attended Georgetown University in Washington DC where he received a bachelor's degree in business administration. John had a long and distinguished career in sales with British Petroleum which led him to many positions across the country including positions in Denver, New Jersey, Detroit, Cleveland and finally Cincinnati in 1976.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Guardian Angels Church, Mt. Washington on Wednesday April 29th at 10:30 AM. Friends may visit the family at the Church on Wednesday from 9:30-10:30 AM. Burial Guardian Angels Cemetery
