Judy Schmidt passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones on Sunday, December 7, 2025, at the age of 82.
Born on October 11, 1943, Judy was the beloved daughter of the late Opal Harris (Wetterer) and James Harris. She was preceded in death by her older sister, Joan Harris. Judy was the cherished mother of Susan Hartung (Schmidt) and Steve Schmidt, and a loving mother-in-law to Bruce Hartung. She was Maw Maw to grandchildren, Brittany Hartung Begley (Jake), Nathan, Ella and Zachary Hartung, and great grandchildren, Brayden Mebs and Felicity Begley, all of whom were her pride and joy!
Judy grew up in the Oakley/Mt. Lookout area before settling in Mt. Washington in mid-life. She spoke fondly of her childhood. In high school, Judy modeled for a department store. She worked as a secretary and administrative assistant at a local non-profit and later part-time at a law firm before retiring in 2020.
Judy was devoted to her family and many pets over the years. She took great care of her parents and sister before their deaths, and she never said no to an opportunity to babysit her grandchildren when they were young.
Judy used to love going to Coney Island in the summers, listening to music (especially Elvis), and playing games like Scrabble and 500 Rummy. She also had a knack for making people laugh.
Judy was beautiful inside and out and will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, the family gratefully requests donations to the American Heart Association, or the League for Animal Welfare in Batavia, Ohio.
