Lee’s obituary, written by Lee. I am Lee Mitchell Boboltz, a retired Professional Engineer by trade. Born 8/10/1928, in Alpena Michigan to Parents Erwin and Minna Boboltz, Brother Charles (Beverly) Boboltz WA8KEP Silent Key (2019), and Sister Iris (Robert) Arthur. Preceded in death by his Wife Ellen Jackson Boboltz. Survived by Children David Boboltz KD8RDI, Barbara Boboltz Neal, and Carolyn Boboltz Courts; 8 Grandchildren – Matt (Jordan) Courts, Cara (Ryan Asbury) Courts, Natasha Courts, Alex Courts, Dax Courts, Caden Courts, Mitch Neal, and Brandy Neal (Darryl) Schweitzer; Great Grandchildren Alexa Schweitzer and Elias Schweitzer.

As a youth, I peddled magazines, like the Saturday Evening Post, Ladies Home Journal, etc., scrubbed and waxed floors, and washed windows. High school I worked as a clerk for Martinson’s Clothing Store and the Alpena Power Company during college. I Graduated from Alpena High School in June 1946 and in September 1946 attended University of Michigan for electrical engineering. In 1948 Joined the Trigon Fraternity, was active in campus pep organization, the Wolverine Club, President 1950/51. Graduated From Michigan in 1951 as Electrical Engineer, with majors in Power and Electronics.

I Was a Life Member Michigan Union #30108. I enlisted in Air Force in July 1951 for 4 years. In 9 months achieved rank of Airman First Class. I received a direct commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Air Force Reserve. October 1952 was called to duty as a reserve officer and was relieved from my enlistment. Attended Officers Communication School in East St. Louis. October 1953, the war with Korea was over, and I was released from active duty. I was honorably discharged as a First Lieutenant in May 1961, National Defense Medal, Efficiency Honor Fidelity Medal. In 1953, I moved to Cincinnati to work for R. K. LeBlond and stayed at the L. B. Harrison Club. In 1955 I met an interesting girl, Ellen Jackson, whom I found intelligent, interesting, and beautiful. I fell in love. I married her! We had 3 children, David, Barbara, and Carol. We lived a life of Love until Ellen passed away in 2011 from Cancer. In 1955 I took and passed the Ohio State Board exams in Columbus Ohio for the Professional Engineering License. I kept my PE license for 52 years. I Helped develop Electrical Engineering Department for LeBlond, where I held such jobs as Chief Electrical Engineer and Staff Engineer, as well as consulted with J.H. Day and Fosdick Company. In 1974, I survived a benign brain tumor. I worked for LeBlond for 33 1/2 years until I retired in 1987 when LeBlond was bought by Makino Company of Japan. I joined Machine Drive Company, in Blue Ash, in 1987, working for my good friend Glen Spohn where I assisted the sales department when making electrical quotes for sales, and designed control panels and electrical systems until I retired at the age of 65 in 1993.

In my 97 years, I’ve enjoyed many hobbies including Craftsman, Wood working, Cabinet Making, Boat Building (Built a 19-foot runabout with a 75hp outboard motor), Amateur Ham Radio operator (KA8MCL), and Winemaking (Charter member of the Cincinnati Vintners). I enjoyed playing the piano to such music as Hoagy Carmichael's Stardust, Sergei Rachmaninoff's Prelude in C Sharp Minor, Claude De Bussey's Claire De Lune, and Richard Addinsell's Warsaw Concerto. I proudly served as the past Commander American Legion Post 318 in 2001, Past Treasurer and Life Member (35-year membership certificate). Also served as a past Senior Navigator with the Cincinnati Sail and Power Squadron, taught Marine Electronics, Vessel Inspector, and was a United States Power Squadron Life Member, 36 + merit marks. I was a life member of the amateur radio 10 10 International, Honorary President of Cincinnati Ten Tuners, ARRL Yearly Member. I’m also a Third-Degree Master Mason, 70 + Life member Alpena (Michigan) Hopper Lodge 199. I enjoyed quite a few years with the Boy Scouts of America serving as Past Chairman Cub Scout Committee Pack 386, Committeeman Explorer Post 508, Scout Commissioner for the Columbia District and Past Scout Master Troop 281, Order of the Arrow, Scout Masters Key.

Over the years I’ve gotten to enjoy the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. in 2014 with my daughter Barbara; water skiing, snow skiing canoeing, river rafting, photography, deer hunter (Past Member of Wildcat Hunting Club Northern Michigan), an Endowment (Life) Member of the National Rifle Association, and I love my crossword puzzles. I’m a proud Life Member University of Michigan Alumnus Association. Hurrah for Maize and Blue. Go Blue!

Funeral service will be held at T.P. White & Sons Funeral Home, 2050 Beechmont Ave., Mt. Washington, on Monday, November 10th at 11 am. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Sunday from 2 to 4 pm. A private family interment will follow the service at Graceland Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be directed to either Honor Flight Tri-State or American Legion Post 318
