Marcia Sammis

Marcia "Joan" Sammis passed away peacefully on February 24, 2025 at the age of 93. She was born on April 4, 1931 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of the late Harold and Chrystal Barkley.

Wife of the late Bob Sammis. Loving mother of Krista (Randy) Davis, Marcia (Steve) Elliott and Mark (Patti) Knudson. Cherished grandmother of Jennifer (Matt) Schildmeyer, Jamie (Chris) Baker, Alex (Will) Halpin, Max (MacKenzie) Elliott, Taylor Elliott, Sam Knudson, Annie (Ryan) Welt and great grandmother of Lily, Charlie, Leo, Eliza, Jack and Everett. Dear sister of Richard C. (Nina) Barkley. Aunt of Katie (Court) and Crystal (Matt).

Joan will always be remembered for her love and kindness. She was always putting her kids and grandkids first. Her love and generosity for her family was unparalleled and the most important part of her life.

Joan was a teacher and went on to her career in retail sales. Mom enjoyed Florida and travel to Alaska and other destinations but was always happiest surrounded by her family. She loved animals. She rode horses and watched the birds in her yard, but no one could take the place of her beloved four legged companion, Rambo.

Her love, beauty and sense of humor will always be remembered by those whose lives she touched.

The family would like to acknowledge the people who took such great and loving care of mom. Her aides, especially Gladys Cox, were devoted to making mom comfortable and happy during the last year. A big thank you to the Ashton of Anderson for accommodating her needs as well as Jamie Jackson of Grace Hospice.
