Margaret Mary Hoover passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of May 23, 2025 at the age of 80 after a two-year battle with cancer. A resident of Anderson Township for 50 years, she was an active member of the local Senior Center and a parishioner at Immaculate Heart of Mary on Beechmont. She was a natural leader who coordinated the Senior Center's book club and a knitting collaborative that created prayer shawls to offer comfort to the sick and dying, baby hats for the NICU at Christ hospital, and hats for the Angel Tree Project. She enjoyed attending Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra concerts and also had the opportunity to travel, visiting many countries on river cruises with her sister Terry. Before her retirement she was the manager of Food and Nutrition Services at Mount Notre Dame Health Center in Reading, Ohio, where she successfully grew the food service program and integrated it into a newly-built facility, which she helped design. Her bond and dedication to the Sisters was evident in her work and after retiring, when she volunteered at the convent. Margie used her nutrition and management skills in other positions she held at Bethesda Base, Bethesda North and Clermont Mercy Hospital.
She was born in 1944 in Cleveland Ohio to Verna and William J. Sindelar. As William was serving in the Navy during the war, she would not meet him until he returned home in 1945. The family lived on the east side of Cleveland until the 1950s when they built a house in North Olmsted, Ohio. She attended Magnificat High School from 1958 to 1962 and earned a scholarship to the College of Mount St. Joseph-on-the-Ohio, where she earned her Bachelor of Science. She continued her education at Indiana University where she graduated with a Master of Science in Education, and also met John E. Hoover, who pursued her relentlessly for years until she finally gave in and married him in 1968. The couple eventually settled in Anderson Township and remained together for forty years until John's untimely death in 2008.
Anyone who had the pleasure of meeting and knowing Margie will tell you that she was a spectacular woman, a warm and generous friend, and a passionate supporter of the organizations and causes to which she dedicated her time. She is preceded in death by her parents and husband and survived by her daughter Rachel Sindelar; her brothers Lawrence (Stephanie) and Edward Sindelar; her sisters Therese Sindelar and Jean Riegel (Thomas); her brother-in-law Tim Hoover; and ten loving nieces and nephews, their spouses and their children. She is also survived by many wonderful friends with whom she had adventures great and small, and who were an enormous source of support during her cancer journey. More than a handful of these close friendships extend back decades.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held to celebrate her life at Immaculate Heart of Mary on what would have been her 81st birthday, June 9 at 10 a.m. with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, Margie requested that donations be made to the Comboni Mission Center by visiting https://combonimissionaries.org/ or contacting Heather Kaufman at 513-474-4997.
