Mark Bradt Miller, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on July 29, 2025-exactly 50 years to the day he first laid eyes on the love of his life, Julie.
Born on January 21, 1953, in Winner, South Dakota, Mark was the sixth of seven sons to Meryn and Mary Miller. Beloved brother of Michael, Monty, Merle, Max, Martin and Melvin Miller.
A standout athlete, Mark shined on the basketball court and was later honored in his high school's Hall of Fame-a legacy that lives on through his grandson Caden, who is also a rising basketball star. Mark played college basketball at Augustana University in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where he earned a degree in Criminal Justice.
He began his career at a youth forestry camp, where he oversaw the rehabilitation of juvenile boys. His passion for helping others led him to a lifelong role as a probation officer, serving his community with strength, compassion, and purpose.
In 1975, Mark met Julie in South Dakota. That day marked the beginning of a 50-year love story-one built on their Christian faith and deep devotion to family. Together, they built a beautiful life in Sulphur Springs, Texas, raising three amazing children: Stacey, Caleb, and Rachael.
Mark was a loving father-in-law to Britney (Caleb), Justin (Rachael), and Chad (Stacey), and the proud grandfather of ten: Caden, Gracie, Hannah, and Asher (Caleb and Britney); Kellan, Alaina, and Hayden (Stacey and Chad Virnig); and Jude, Gibson, and Isla (Rachael and Justin Evans).
He was a dedicated father who supported Caleb all the way to the NFL, and a proud "girl dad" to Stacey and Rachael-cherishing every dance recital and father-daughter moment. Mark found purpose and pride in showing up for his kids-for games, performances, and everyday life. His presence was a gift. To this day, they all still say how blessed they were to have had such a joyful childhood, built on the foundation their parents created. Talk about legacy!
Known for his servant heart and quiet strength, Mark also had a playful side-he was the family's grill master, a legendary chocolate chip cookie baker, and a master of homemade ice cream.
He also loved to fish-something that brought him peace, joy, and connection with nature. Many of his grandkids now share in that same passion, picking up their rods and heading to the water just like their Papa. For them, fishing will always feel like home-a place where they will always remember Papa.
More than anything, Mark Miller loved his family. They were his world, and he was theirs.
He leaves behind a legacy of unwavering love, devotion, and faithfulness. He will be missed deeply-and remembered always.
Memorial Service will be held on Saturday August 23 at 3PM at League Street Church of Christ, Sulphur Springs, TX. Memorials to Alzheimer's Association.
