Mary K. Huber

July 7, 1922 — October 12, 2025

Mary Kay was born July 7, 1922 to Charlotte Piket Readnour and William Readnour. Mary grew up in Norwood, Ohio, attended Regina High School and graduated in the class of 1940. She met Joseph Huber at a parish picnic while still in high school, they fell in love, and after Joe returned from serving in the US Army during WWII, they married on May 17, 1947.

Mary and Joe built a home in the Mount Washington area in 1953. There, Mary and Joe raised their family and became very active in Guardian Angels (GA) church, where Mary sang in the choir and was a regular in their local "off Broadway troupe", the Angels Follies. All three of their children attended elementary school at GA before heading off to McNicholas and St Xavier for high school.

Mary was a "stay-at-home Mom", didn't drive until she was in her 40's, supported her husband with his career, and her kids with their studies and in their budding interests in sports and music. The kids' friends were always welcome to come visit and she became like a second Mom to many.

After the kids graduated college and moved away to start their own lives, Joe and Mary began traveling. They visited their kids and grandkids often. They also traveled with Dottie and Joe Roth who were their closest friends. They booked domestic and international tours. They visited many exciting and wondrous places, affixing bumper stickers on their luggage that read "We're out spending our children's inheritance"! Joe and Mary enjoyed their travels, sometimes keeping a journal of the details of their adventures. For their 50th wedding anniversary, in addition to a local celebration with family and friends, they traveled to Australia and New Zealand. They enjoyed the culture, landmarks, and friends they made on that tour. Joe learned how to operate a video camera to take video memories of the special adventure.

Joe passed away suddenly on April 2, 2000 of natural causes. Mary chose to continue to live in the house they had built, stayed active at church, and continued volunteering at both the Union Terminal Museum Center and at Mercy Hospital in Anderson Township. She drove her 2000 Camry to volunteer, go to church, grocery shop, and to visit friends until one fateful January morning in 2018, when she slipped on black ice getting her morning paper and broke her leg.

After some initial healing and physical therapy at St. Theresa's, now Mariemont Care Center (MCC), she became a resident there and enjoyed numerous activities, including bingo (she loved to win), beach ball, volleyball, and watching every single Reds game during their season. One of her favorite players was Joey Votto, whom she called "My Joey". She also kept newspaper photos and had a beautiful framed photo of George Clooney, who hails from Cincinnati. Over the years, most of her close friends have passed on. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren still came to visit as often as they could, as everyone lives out-of-town, and/or through Facebook Portal calls. She was able to see them and sometimes join in their travels and major life events.

Several years ago, we were blessed to enlist the help of a private caregiver, Lisa Dasti, to help ensure the compassionate care Mary needed in her final years at MCC. This started out as a few days per week and grew into around the clock support from Lisa and her wonderful daughters. They became our angels and an extension of our family with the loving way they cared for Mary as if she was their own mother. Words cannot express the gratitude we have for them and the fact they made sure Mary always felt love and never felt alone.

After a long and happy life, Mary passed away peacefully in her sleep on Oct 12, 2025, at the ripe old age of 103 years, 3+ months . Those who knew her will remember her wonderful and quick sense of humor, her gentle and compassionate spirit, and her strong dedication to her family, friends, and her faith.

Mary is survived by her 3 children: Deborah Huber Lawson (Ken) of Indianapolis, IN, Donald Huber (Vicki) of Denver, CO and David Huber (Tammy) of Prosper TX. Also, her 7 grandchildren: Deborah's children Timothy Sexton (RIP 5/22/2023), Nancy Sexton, Patrick Rehling, and Kristina Wade; Donald's children Stephanie Cordova and Nathan Huber; and David's children Christian Huber and Caitlyn Huber. Finally, her 3 great grandchildren: Deborah's grandchildren Autumn Martin (Kristina), Louis Rehling and Grace Rehling (Patrick)

We have always been so blessed to have such a loving and caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
