Richard A. Weis, 85, passed from this life into the eternal embrace of his Savior on August 25, 2024. He was born December 7, 1938, to Elmer Weis and Wilhelmine Weis. A graduate of Withrow High School, The Ohio State University and University of Cincinnati, it was perhaps his years at primary school that proved most pivotal. There, at the age of 11, he met Helen, his future wife and best friend.
Rick was a passionate teacher of history his entire life. He spent 32 years in the Cincinnati Public School System, 27 of them at Withrow. Upon "retirement" in 1994 through 2023, he continued to teach at various institutions, including UC Clermont College, Chatfield Community College, and the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI).
For over 60 years, Rick was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, where he served in numerous leadership positions, sang in the choir, and was blessed by many friendships. He also enjoyed traveling, including recent trips with the Road Scholar Learning Program, ushering at Playhouse in the Park, singing with Jubilant Singers, driving his 1965 Ford Mustang convertible, bowling; playing golf, attending the symphony, and treasuring his grandchildren.
Rick is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Helen; children Ted (Melissa) Weis, Jill (Michael) Gartner, and Holly (Jon) Price; grandchildren Jenna (Noah), Valerie (Nilo), David, Alex (Kirstin), Haley, Jack, Henry and Eleanor; great grandchild Max; his brother Joe (Wendy) Weis, and two nieces. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his stepmother, Ellen Weis, and grandchild, Julia.
Visitation will be Monday, September 2, from 4-6pm at T.P. White & Sons Funeral Home, 2050 Beechmont Avenue, Cincinnati.
