We celebrate the life of Robert S. Mason (AKA: Bob, Dad, Grandpa and Sweetheart) who passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 23 at the age of 87.
Bob was born in Princeton, Kentucky on November 13, 1937 to Robert and Mary Mason. He had one sibling, Dottie who passed away many years ago. He grew up in Western Kentucky and attended the University of Kentucky where he met the love of his life, Nancy Bearden. They were married in 1958. They have two daughters, Cindy (John Lane) and Susan (Brad Hill). They have five granddaughters: Chelsea (Kyle Kolpak), Tessa, Morgan (Joe Bertka), Reagan and Peyton. He is also survived by his nephew Harry Mason Joiner (Suzanne), niece Mary Louise Joiner, nephew Jim Joiner (Susan) and cousin William B Mason Jr (Barbara). Family was everything to him. He was a very dedicated father, husband and grandfather.
Bob worked at Midwestern Insurance Company for years then he and Nancy opened Outdoor Adventures in Clifton until 1999 when they closed the doors for retirement.
Bob loved to travel and explore the world with Nancy. Their love of traveling was contagious and infected every member of the family. They spoiled each granddaughter with an amazing trip of her choice as well as taking their daughters on trips to the Mediterranean and Cabo. Traveling with Bob was always crazy and fun. You never knew what he was going to do next!
Bob had four other loves of his life.....anything UK, corvettes, golf and Horizon Church. He also loved to dance and was always the life of the party!
Bob attended the University of Kentucky and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Commerce. Since he met Nancy there, they supported UK events like alumni weekends and football games over the last 60 years. They have also been awarded several alumni awards and achievements. He has more UK apparel than the University store!
He had six Corvettes and the last one blended his two passions. A Kentucky Blue colored 2021 Corvette with the license, "UK Blue". This car was his pride and joy!
Bob and Nancy were founding member of Ivy Hills Country Club where they play golf. They have enjoyed their friendships and relationships that have been fostered as members. And their generosity to the staff has made them loved and appreciated by all that have worked there.
Horizons Church opened in 2012 and they decided to try this beautiful new church. In short time, they became very involved. As greeters, they got to know all of the families, their stories and watch the kids grow up. The children would run to hug them every week. And even in his last months, he attended the door in his wheelchair and would light up with each child's smile and hug. He truly left an impression on the church!
With his passing, he has left a hole in the hearts of many as he touched so many lives in so many arenas. He will be deeply missed by his wife, his daughters and his granddaughters.
Gone but never forgotten! Love you DAD!
