Robert James Reeves

Robert J. “Bob” Reeves of Triadelphia, WV, passed away on April 19, 2024, at the age of eighty-seven. He was born on September 19, 1936, in Toledo, OH, the son of the late Charles V. and Amelia M. Reeves.

Mr. Reeves graduated from Triadelphia High School in 1954. He attended the College of Wooster for one year and then transferred to West Liberty State College, where he earned a B.A. in Secondary Education, with a Major in Speech. He was a member of the faculty at The Linsly School in Wheeling for thirty-nine years where he was the chairman of the history department, tennis coach for over twenty-five years, scorekeeper for the boys’ varsity basketball team, public address announcer for both football and basketball home games, off-stage announcer for the Linsly Extravaganza, and director of major drama productions for over ten years.

Additionally, Bob served as a part-time instructor of speech communications at the Wheeling branch of West Virginia Northern Community College. He also worked as a radio announcer for over forty-five years at several local radio stations and a news anchor/sportscaster at WTRF-TV from 1979-1987. As a devoted member of Stone Presbyterian Church in Wheeling, Bob served as an elder and deacon, along with various committee work throughout his fifty-year membership. He also actively participated in Chapter #824 of the A.A.R.P., serving as vice president for two years and president for two years.

In his retirement, Bob enjoyed watching sporting events and traveling. In 2010, Bob and his wife, Janet, purchased a second home in Naples, Florida, where they made many wonderful friends and Bob enjoyed riding his three-wheel bicycle. In 2013, Bob and Janet moved to Cincinnati, OH. Bob continued his religious commitments upon moving to Cincinnati, where he was a member of Mount Washington Presbyterian Church and actively participated in the Saturday men’s discussion group. Additionally, he and his wife frequently enjoyed fellowship through the church’s Mariners outings.

Above all else, Bob cherished his family. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He treasured spending time with loved ones, telling stories, and watching his children and grandchildren grow. He leaves behind his loving wife of forty-eight years, Janet Lea Kimble Reeves and five children: Robin Reeves Craig and her husband Bob of Wheeling, Linda Jo Reeves of Wheeling, David A. Reeves and his wife Terri of Wheeling, Christopher M. Reeves and his wife Erica of Huntsville, AL, and Jeffrey S. Reeves and his wife Shannon of Cincinnati. Additionally, he is survived by seven grandchildren: Amanda Craig Dolan, Allison Craig, Adam Craig, Abby Reeves, Zachary Reeves, and Jacob Reeves (all of Wheeling), as well as Hannah Reeves of Cincinnati. Bob is also survived by a niece, Diane Reeves of Jupiter, FL, and a sister-in-law, Beverly Campbell of Charleston, WV.

Robert Reeves leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. He will be deeply missed by his wife, children, grandchildren, extended family, and friends. Though he may no longer walk among us, his memory will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.

A funeral service will be held for Robert Reeves on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at 3:00 PM at Mount Washington Presbyterian Church, located at 6474 Beechmont Ave, Cincinnati, OH 45230. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Linsly School or Stone Presbyterian Church, both located in Wheeling, WV.
