Ruby Virene Oliver (nee Teachey)

April 12, 1931 — June 4, 2025

Ruby Virene Teachey Oliver, age 94, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on June 4, 2025, in Cincinnati, Ohio following a stroke.

She was born in Verona, North Carolina to Annie Smith Teachey and Charles Thomas Teachey. She had two younger brothers, Durwood and Charles Teachey. All of which have preceded her in death and were surely in line to hug her at the pearly gates.

In 1952, Ruby married the love of her life, John Paul Oliver, who was a good-looking, kind, and loving Marine. Ruby and John had two children, Louann and Johnny.

Ruby maintained society, as we know it, by volunteering in many capacities. She worked at Camp Lejeune with the Navy Relief Society, she was the volunteer coordinator for Hospice in Lee County Kentucky, she volunteered at the Alzheimer's unit by playing music and running bingo games. She was always active in her churches: Saint Helen's and Mt. Washington Baptist.

Ruby was blessed with many friends who loved her very much. She loved to play cards and games of all sorts. She was an expert seamstress and made many clothes for her family. She even upholstered furniture! She was a fabulous cook who left a legacy of recipes with her family members. She traveled all over this country to see what she could see and to love on family members who lived far away.

Her greatest joy was her grandchildren, and great- grandchildren. Her love extended beyond blood to the spirit, and she tried to formally adopt some full-grown adults into her family. Everyone called her Mama!

Ruby is survived by her son John Paul Oliver Jr. and his wife Bonnie. Also, her daughter Louann Bartholomew and her husband Dale.

She is survived by her grandchildren, Angela Oliver of Wilmington, North Carolina, JP Prince (Jessica) of San Diego, California, Christine Bartholomew (Josh Levin) of Chicago, Illinois, Michael Oliver (Andi) of Springboro, Ohio and Stephanie Kirby (Jeremy) of Wilmington, Ohio.

Ruby is survived by her beloved great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Emily Prince, Raymond, Sami Jo and Jeremy Kirby and Hunter and Ashton Oliver.

Ruby was preceded in death by her cherished husband, John Paul. She will be laid to rest next to him at Evans Cemetery in Campton, Kentucky, near their home in Kentucky.

A visitation will be held at Mt. Washington Baptist Church on June 20th, from 5PM to 6PM with a service at 6PM followed by a dinner for all. Please join us.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be sent to Mt. Washington Baptist Church, 2021 Sutton Ave., Cincinnati, Ohio 45230, for the remodeling of the sanctuary.
