Sebastian William Thomas Schemmel was born on February 3, 2002, in Indianapolis, Indiana, during the excitement of Super Bowl Sunday—a fitting introduction for someone who would bring so much energy, joy, and light into the world. Sebastian passed away on November 22, 2024, leaving a legacy of love, achievement, and unforgettable memories.  

Sebastian was a man of incredible talent, integrity, and boundless love, and he had an unforgettable sense of humor. He brought happiness and light into every space he entered, making a lasting impact that will continue to inspire and resonate with all who knew him.

Sebastian was the beloved son of William and Luz Elena Schemmel, who nurtured his compassionate and driven spirit. He was a devoted brother to Carlos, Dominic, and Isabel, sharing countless cherished memories filled with laughter, love, and support. He was also a loving brother-in-law to Marissa Schemmel and a proud uncle to Mateo Schemmel, whom he adored and who brought him countless laughs and smiles.

Sebastian shared a deep and abiding love with his girlfriend, Libby Spera, whose partnership brought him endless happiness, adventure, and connection. Together with his family, she formed the cornerstone of his life and was the source of his greatest pride and joy.

Family and Community

Sebastian’s love and commitment extended to his entire family. He was a devoted grandson to Tom and Ellen Schemmel, Luz Elena Enriquez Torres, and the late Xavier Enriquez, each of whom deeply influenced his life.

He shared a close bond with his aunts and uncles, Mark and Maureen Schemmel, Myrna Gomez, Ernesto Enriquez, Clara Enriquez, and Pablo Hernandez, and he treasured his relationships with his cousins: Adriana, Andres, Christianna, Eli, Gabriela, Isaac, Jillian, Max, Olivia, Sadie, and Sofia.

Sebastian valued these family connections deeply and brought delight, humor, and love to every gathering. His loyalty, warmth, and unwavering presence were a source of strength and comfort to everyone in his family.

A Life of Dedication and Achievement

Sebastian’s journey of achievement began at St. Dominic School and continued at Our Lady of Victory School, where he was a serial spelling bee champion, multi-sport athlete, member of the National Honor Society, the Chess Club, and Math Counts, as well as a dedicated altar boy.

He later graduated from Walnut Hills High School, where he excelled as a National Merit Finalist, a member of the Cum Laude Society, a talented musician in the Senior Orchestra, an athlete on the Men’s Varsity Lacrosse Team, and a key competitor on the Mock Trial Team, earning multiple "Outstanding Attorney" awards.

Sebastian was awarded the prestigious Lindner Honors-Plus Scholarship and attended the University of Cincinnati, graduating with a BBA degree in Finance and a minor in Marketing from the Lindner School of Business. During his time at UC, Sebastian co-founded Men for Mental Health, an organization that reflected his dedication to supporting others. His leadership and commitment were evident across campus, where he was a beloved brother of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, serving as an award-winning treasurer. He was also a member of the Student Alumni Council, Lindner Ambassadors, Mock Trial Team, the University Funding Board, and Phi Rho Chi, which is the highest men's Greek honorary organization at the University of Cincinnati.

Professional Excellence

Sebastian’s professional journey was marked by passion and innovation. During high school, he worked at Michael Ganson Law Office, gaining early experience and showcasing his drive. In college, he went on to intern at Ernst and Young, Viking Partners, and Procter & Gamble, and he excelled in each of these positions.

After graduating, Sebastian began his career as a Brand Manager at Procter & Gamble, where he worked passionately on the Safeguard and Ivory brands. He was a respected leader at P&G and a man of great ambition, who never hesitated to go out of his way to support a colleague or friend.

A Life of Creativity and Passion

Sebastian was a man of wide-ranging interests and a zest for life. His passion for music began early as a violinist in the MYCincinnati Youth Orchestra, where he honed his talents and performed on world-renowned stages, including Carnegie Mellon University, the Walt Disney Concert Hall, and the Aspen Music Festival. He continued to grow his musical skills as rapper ‘Lil Schem’ in the 8th grade. During his time at UC, he began to DJ, creating and performing original mixes at local venues, sharing his love for music and creating lasting memories with friends new and old. He was also a spikeball enthusiast, an avid fisherman, and a proud Nerf Wars Champion during his time at Walnut Hills.

Sebastian adored his dogs, Scout and Dolly, who were his loyal companions and brought him endless happiness. He also had a deep love for travel, exploring other countries and immersing himself in different cultures. He especially loved attending electronic dance music concerts in cities all over the world, where he combined his passion for music with his love of adventure and connection.

Above all, Sebastian had a remarkable sense of humor and a gift for bringing people together. His natural curiosity and genuine interest in those around him always made others feel valued and respected. He cherished coming home for family dinners, sharing laughter and creating treasured memories that will endure forever.

Forever in Our Hearts

Sebastian will be remembered as a kind, talented, and compassionate young man who brought immense joy to everyone who knew him. His devotion to his family, friends, and community, coupled with his incredible drive and passion, made him a truly remarkable person.

In memory of Sebastian, the family kindly welcomes flowers or donations in any amount to The Sebastian Schemmel Legacy Fund: Championing Men’s Mental Health, which is being established as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization dedicated to championing men’s mental health through education and programming. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Victory Church, 810 Neeb Rd., Delhi, on Friday, December 6th at 10:30 am.  Family and friends may visit at T.P. White & Sons Funeral Home, 2050 Beechmont Ave., Mt. Washington, on Thursday from 5 to 8 pm.
