Condolence: My sympathy goes out to Dr. Spaulding's family. You have lost someone who loved and cared deeply about you and tried to give you all you needed to succeed in the world: a family upbringing, an education, and a love of God and country.

I have lost a great teacher and friend of 38 years. I was fortunate to know such a unique man. He was one of the three best friends I have had in my professional life. I had the privilege of having lunches with him for over 30 years as a fellow faculty member and later as a special friend. He sponsored me to membership at Coldstream Country Club and was a frequent golfing friend. He was my roommate on our golfing trip to Ireland and we shared a wonderful week together laughing, cursing, getting drenched in the rain, and having a great time.

I was also lucky enough drive him back from Florida after a cruise and talk at length about life, his life, and his feelings for his college sweetheart, "Tootsie". With a little convincing I urged him to tell her how he truly felt, resulting in the past four years of his relationship with her. I have never seen him so happy and alive. I also had the chance to see them together in Phoenix when I was there and was gratified to see their mutual contentment.

I was glad to see that his passing was on his terms where he left us peacefully in his recliner and not having to suffer the indignities of a slow, painful death in a hospital bed. I will miss him terribly and will always remember his stories, photographic memory, and zest for life which he lived to the fullest.

As a product of a Jesuit education he emulated the exhortation to be "a man for others" and served his patients, family, friends, community, University of Cincinnati, and country with uncommon honesty and uncompromising ethics.

So goodbye for now my dear friend until our paths cross again.

Condolence: Abbot loved life so much it's hard to imagine our world without him.

He was a long term member of our car club the Ohio Morgan Owners Group. And when ever we got together, Abbot could be counted on for a good story or two.

In the last few years Abbot and Chip became frequent driving partners. So we were doubly blessed to have such good company.

No doubt Abbot is already checking our the heavenly fleet of Morgan sports cars for his upcoming driving tour. And he would appreciate greatly that today's visitation happens to be a beautiful sunny one with mild weather. Perfect Morgan driving weather.

My car and I went for drive this afternoon and kept Abbot in mind for the entire trip.

thumbs up Abbot!

Condolence: My thoughts and prayers are with each of you as you prepare to say goodbye to your father. I looked forward to his Christmas card each year and see what wonderful places he had been. His many humorous stories and his wonderful laugh. He was a wonderful teacher and a man with great ethics, he taught me a great deal and thank goodness I have many wonderful memories that will keep him with me forever. My heart is heavy as the world lost a wonderful man.

Condolence: I am so saddened to learn of Dr. Spaulding's passing. I was one of his first patients in that office by the Mt. Washington water tower. I was a patient until he retired, and then again when he returned to practice. He was a wonderful gentleman, a great doctor, and he had a marvelous sense of humor. He will be missed.

Condolence: This is such a sorrowful loss to the eye care profession, the community, his friends and pretty much the whole world. Abbot was always a very warm and joyful person whom my now deceased wife and I have known for years. Don’t recall how we first met but he was the eye doctor wife Doni and I both saw at his Beechmont office for years. But also he was a fellow member of the Ohio Morgan Owners Group. So we wound up spending time at many a doctor's office visit talking about our Morgans rather than eye health care!!! We so much enjoyed his presence at all of our group’s gatherings and events. He always had some great stories and could get Doni laughing quickly! His burgundy Morgan was always immaculate, well cared for and well driven. (Sign of a good person!) His son Chip started to take over the reins of the car a few years ago and the participation of father and son together at our events was fun to have around. Abbot you will be truly missed. My condolences and prayers go out to all of the Spaulding family, and not to slight any other family member, but especially to Chip and his family whom we got to know so well through OHMOG.
Rest in peace Abbot and say Hi to Doni for me.
