Obituary for Phyllis C. Beers

Phyllis C. Beers
Phyllis C. Beers of Anderson Twp. passed away peacefully on September 29, 2016 at the age of 93. She was born Helen Phyllis Collins on January 21, 1923 in Chicago to adoring parents Kathryn Landers "Kassy" Lott Collins and Daniel Rutherford "Spec" Collins. Her early childhood was spent in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin and the family later moved to Evanston, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, where they lived 30+ years. Phyllis was an only child and was devoted to her parents throughout their lives.

In 1944, Phyllis graduated in Fashion and Textiles from Iowa State College. This is where she met her life-long sweetheart, William Douglas "Doug" Beers, loving husband of 72 years. In 1951, Phyl and Doug moved to Cincinnati, Ohio making this their hometown for the remainder of their lives. Homemaking and the raising of their two daughters was Phyllis' first career. Later she enjoyed a second 20-year career providing marketing and membership services for CinFed Credit Union.

Phyl took pleasure in social activities including community theatre productions, couple dance club events, Cincinnati Reds games, ladies bridge and luncheon clubs, PEO service club and Chi Omega sorority activities. Antiques, fashion, sewing, art, and crafts were other interests she enjoyed. The couple traveled to many US and International destinations, often accompanied by their family. Phyllis loved cats and shared her home with a cat or two most of her life. Late life fun included becoming a grandmother and attending the grandkids' school and sporting events. Family and friends will miss her sense of fun and zest for life.

Phyllis is survived by her loving husband of 72 years, W. Douglas Beers, devoted daughters Kassy (Jeff) Corken and Noelle (David) Houben, adored grandchildren Ryan (Sasha) Corken and Kailey (Eric) Corken-Golz.

Services will be held at T.P. White & Sons Funeral Home, 2050 Beechmont Avenue, 45230 (Mt. Washington) on Saturday, October 8th at 11 am. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Saturday from 10 to 11 am. The interment will immediately follow the service at Arlington Memorial Gardens.

Phyllis and Doug were active in the Stanton Memorial Carillon Foundation, established to support the Bells of Iowa State University.
