Obituary for Frederick L. "Fred" Rutherford

Fred l. Rutherford passed away on September 14th, 2018 at the age of 91. Born on January 5th, 1927 in Oklahoma City, Fred was the son of the late James Taylor and Mary (Oursler) Rutherford and the brother of James Taylor II. He is survived by his wife of 64 years Pat (Trish), his son Jim (Irena) and their children Nazar and Diana and his daughter Susan (Shawn Abitz) and devoted dog, Ollie. At the age of 14, he was appointed as a U.S. Senate page in Washington, D.C. during the F.D.R. administration in 1941-1942 and lived in a boarding house on Avenue B. He had the opportunity to hear F.D.R and Winston Churchill address congress. Upon graduation from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his country in Germany. Fred graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1950 where he was a member of Delta Upsilon Fraternity. He attended graduate school at Northwestern University in Chicago and began his career in marketing at Armour and Company. He later moved to Mariemont, OH where he continued his business career in addition to owning the villager store. While living in Mariemont, Fred served on village council and was a life member of the Mariemont preservation foundation. In 1992 he received Mariemont's outstanding citizen of the year award. He was an avid reader and historian. Fred co-authored a book, "Pioneers of the Lower Little Miami valley". He also loved sports, especially Sooner's football, the Reds, Bengals and playing golf. Throughout his life Fred would often share stories about his interesting experiences with friends and family and will remembered as a kind and caring person, a true gentleman.
