Mary J Brafford (nee Schwietert), age 95, died Feb. 20, 2018. She was the wife of the late Harry Wm. Brafford, beloved mother of William H (Christine A), James B, Daniel R (Suellen M) Brafford, and Linda B (George) Scheper. Adored grandmother of Bob, Beth, Kate, Chris, Michelle, Erin and Josh, and 11 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by her sisters Betty L Edwards and Bernice S Roat.

Mary retired from Shillito/Lazarus in 1989, spending 15 years in either Fabric/Needlework or Bed/Bath department.

A devoted gardener, Mary tended Harrys rose garden for 37 years and worked tirelessly in her shady swamp. Mary learned to sew in the 8th grade at Lincoln School and never stopped. As a lifelong seamstress and quilter, she sewed clothes for herself, her children, including professional quality wool suits and coats with bound buttonholes. Grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews received shirts, dresses, nightgowns, robes, quilts and more. Her hands were never still. She served as Stitchery Chair for Anderson Township Historical Society Country Store for 30 years. Her quilted and handmade creations warm the homes of many friends, family and devotees. Mass of Christian Burial at Guardian Angels Church on Monday, Feb. 26 at 10:30. Friends may visit at the church on Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 am
